- "SWINDON, a parish in the hundred of Cheltenham, county Gloucester, 2 miles
N.W. of Cheltenham, its post town. The village is situated on the road from
Cheltenham to Tewkesbury, near the line of the Birmingham and Gloucester
railway. The land is principally in pasture and orchard. The living is a
rectory* in the diocese of Gloucester and Bristol, value £479. The church,
dedicated to St. Lawrence, is an ancient Norman structure."
