The Memorial is a stone Celtic Cross set on a square stone plinth on a triangle of land opposite the NEW INN Westerleigh and adjacent to the Church of St James The Great, Westerleigh.

The inscription on the West face of the plinth reads: -

TO THE

FELL IN THE GREAT WAR

Some notes on the Memorial Inscriptions

I am indebted to the Commonwealth War Graves Commission for much of the information appearing in these notes. The Commission's records do not always match the Memorial inscriptions in some minor details.

Private Frederick Dando served in the 12th Bn. Gloucestershire Regt. and died on Friday 23 August 1918 aged 22 yrs. He has no known grave but is commemorated on the VIS-EN-ARTOIS MEMORIAL, Pas de Calais, France. He was the son of Thomas Dando of School Lane, Westerleigh.

Private George Fletcher served in "D" Coy. 1st Bn. Royal Warwickshire Regt. and died on Monday 28 April 1919 aged 20 yrs. He is buried in YATE (ST MARY) CHURCHYARD, Glos. He was the son of John and Mary Jane Fletcher, of Rose Cottage, North Road, Yate.

Private Herbert Fletcher served in 2nd/5th Bn. Gloucestershire Regt. and died on Thursday 25 April 1918 aged 21 yrs. He has no known grave but is commemorated on the LOOS MEMORIAL, Pas de Calais, France. He too was the son of John and Mary Jane Fletcher of North Road, Yate.

Corporal William Edwin Young served in 4th Bn. Worcestershire Regt. and died on Wednesday 2 October 1918 aged 25 yrs. He has no known grave but is commemorated on the TYNE COT MEMORIAL, Zonnebeke, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. He was the brother of Mrs M L Perryman (nee Young) of 11, Bridge Street, Upper Eastville, Bristol.
