"WESTON-BIRT, a parish in the hundred of Longtree, county Gloucester, 3½ miles S.W. of Tetbury, and 10 S.W. of Tetbury Road station. The village is situated on the Bath and Cirencester road, and has been almost entirely rebuilt. The soil is loamy, upon a subsoil of oolite rock. There are many land-springs, or "shire-burns", which break out in spring and autumn. The Hall is the seat of R. S. Holford, Esq., M.P., who is lord of the manor and sole landowner. The parish includes the separate ecclesiastical district of Lasborough, formerly a Roman settlement. The living is a rectory* in the diocese of Gloucester and Bristol, value £120. The church, dedicated to St. Katharine, contains a monument by Westmacott to one of the Holford family. There is a National school for both Sexes. The charities produce about £3 per annum."
