WOTTON UNDER EDGE, Gloucestershire

- The Wotton
under Edge Heritage Centre is a registered Museum run by the Wotton under
Edge Historical Society. In addition to the Museum, there is also a Research Room
in the Centre (admission requires a small daily fee) which has an extensive collection
of records (including copies of Parish Registers) and several indexes of interest to

- A Grammar School was founded here in 1384 - known as the
Katharine Lady Berkeley School.
- Sir Isaac Pitman,
the inventor of shorthand, was a master at the British School in Bear Street, which
he founded in 1837 (another source says 1832). Updated 14 Jan 2007.
