"BARTON, a township and chapelry in the parish of Preston, and hundred of Amounderness, in the county palatine of Lancashire, 6 miles to the N.W. of Preston. The Lancaster and Preston Junction railway passes through it. The living is a perpetual curacy, value £120, in the patronage of C. R. Jackson and G. Marton, Esqs., alternately. The church is dedicated to St. Lawrence. In the vicinity are Barton Hall and Barton Lodge."
