"WUERDLE WITH WARDLE, a township in the parish of Rochdale, hundred of Salford, county Lancaster, 2 miles N.E. of Rochdale, of which it is a large and populous suburb, containing the chapelry of Smallbridge. The inhabitants are chiefly employed in the cotton mills and mines."
