BIGHTON
"BIGHTON, a parish and village in the hundred of Bishop's Sutton, North
Alton division of the county of Southampton, 2 miles to the N.E. of New
Alresford, its post town, and 9 from Winchester. The living is a rectory*
in the diocese of Winchester, value £310, in the patronage of the Rev. J.
T. Maine. The church is old, and contains some massive round pillars,
supporting pointed arches of unequal size between the nave and the aisles.
They are supposed to be as old as the Conquest. There is also a very large
ancient font. The church is dedicated to All Saints, and the eastern window
is of stained glass. A National school has been recently erected."
