"HEADBOURN WORTHY, a parish in the lower division of Fawley hundred, county Hants, 1½ mile N. of Winchester. The village is situated on the river Itchen, which is navigable from Winchester to Southampton. The living is a rectory* in the diocese of Winchester, value £420, in the patronage of University College, Oxford. The church is dedicated to St. Martin. There is a National school. The charities produce about £7. Joseph Bingham, the ecclesiastical historian, author of "Origins Ecclesiasticæ," was once rector. "
