HOUND
Description in 1868
"HOUND, a parish in the hundred of Mainsbridge, Southampton division of
county Hants, 3¾ miles S.E. of Southampton, its post town. The village is
situated on the shore of the Southampton Water. The parish contains Sholing
and Netley, a great portion of the village deriving its name from the
latter place. The land is chiefly arable, with some pasture and woodland,
and a large extent of common. The appropriate tithes have been commuted for
a rent-charge of £345 6s. 8d., and the vicarial for £172 13s. 4d. "

- An extract from the diary of Sergeant J Waterhouse who
served in the 19th Foot 1864 - 1870. (Green Howards). The
diary extract covers from 11 February 1870, when he
arrived back at Southampton and was taken to Royal
Victoria Military Hospital at Netley, till March 1870.

Military Hospital" by Phillip Hoare. Includes a plan
of this huge hospital. (ISBN 1-84115-293-5). Published 2001 by 4th estate.
- Netley Military Cemetery, Royal Victoria
Country Park (Previously Royal Victoria Military Hospital
site). The cemetery holds military graves from the first
and second World wars, maintained by the Commonwealth War
Graves Commission. It also some old graves of hospital
staff. The military graves are included in the Commonwealth
Wargraves Commission - searchable database . Memorial
Inscriptions for Netley Military Cemetery are available
