"BEMBRIDGE, a chapelry in the parish of Brading, liberty of East Medina, in the Isle of Wight, in the county of Southampton, 8 miles to the E. of Newport. It is situated in a beautiful spot between Brading harbour and Sandown Bay, at the foot of Bembridge Down, and not far from Culver cliffs, a chalk range about 400 feet in height. On the top of Bembridge Down stands the memorial column to the Earl of Yarborough, which is 75 feet high, and was erected in 1849. Off Bembridge Point are several dangerous shoals, marked by buoys, and to the eastward are the Bembridge floating lights, established in 1812. Bembridge is a coastguard station. In the neighbourhood are beds of lignite, fuller's earth, and red ochre. The living is a perpetual curacy in the diocese of Winchester, value £100, in the patronage of the Vicar of Brading. The church was opened in 1827. Near the village are Bembridge Farm and Bembridge Lodge." You can also perform a more selective search for churches in the area that are recorded in the GENUKI church database. This will also help identify churches in nearby townships and/or parishes. You also have the option to see the location of the churches marked marked on a map.
If you keep this page loaded for a very long time and the database is updated since loading it, the church links above may become stale and may display the wrong church. If this happens, reloading this page will correct them.
Ask for the gazetteer for a calculation of the distance from Bembridge to another place.
