Mason's Guide 1876 - Mottistone
"Mottistone, which two miles beyond Brixton is situated on a gentle eminence,
and its church, which is small, and dedicated to SS.Peter and Paul, offers
specimens of various architectural epochs. On the side of the hill above the
church stands the singular relic of either Celtic or Druidic days, nows as Long
Stone, but the general opinion pronounces it to be a cromlech or Druidic
funeral stone." (From Mason's Guide to the Isle of Wight, 1876)
