MEDSTED
"MEDSTED, (or Meadsted), a parish in the hundred of Bishop's Sutton, Alton
division of county Hants, 4 miles S.W. of Alton, its post town. The
village, which is small, is wholly agricultural. The surface is elevated,
and the scenery picturesque. The living is a rectory* in the diocese of
Winchester, value £580, in the patronage of the bishop. The church,
dedicated to St. Andrew, is an ancient structure with a small tower. The
interior of the church has some Norman pillars of great antiquity. There is
a National school, and a chapel for the Independents.
