"NORTH STONEHAM, a parish in the hundred of Mainsbridge, county Hants, 4 miles N.E. of Southampton, its post town, and 1 mile S.W. of Bishopstoke railway station. The village is situated on the South-Western railway, near the river Itchen. The parish includes Middle Stoneham and four other hamlets The Hursley hounds meet in this parish. The living is a rectory*in the diocese of Winchester, value £536. The church is dedicated to St. Nicholas. The interior contains effigies of the Flemyngs from the reign of James I.; also a monument, by More, of Lord Hawke, who died at Western Grove. The parochial charities produce about £12 per annum. J. B. W. Fleming, Esq., is lord of the manor and principal landowner.
