ST. BARTHOLOMEW HYDE
"ST. BARTHOLOMEW HYDE, a parish in the suburbs of Winchester, partly within
the city, and partly in the liberty of Soke, in the county of Southampton.
It is the site of Hyde abbey, a Benedictine house founded by Alfred the
Great, and re-founded in 1110 by Henry I. The abbey was largely endowed,
and had at the Dissolution a revenue of £866. The abbey church is still
standing.
