"BACTON, a parish in the hundred of Webtree, in the county of Hereford, 10 miles to the S.W. of Hereford, its post town. It is situated in the Golden Vale, not far from the border of Wales. The district is hilly and contains some marble. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Hereford, value £129, in the patronage of F. Hamp, Esq., to whom the manor of Bacton belongs. The church is dedicated to St. Faith, and has a monument to Blanche Parry, lady of the bedchamber to Queen Elizabeth. Among the charities of the parish, which amount to £30, is an endowment by that lady for the benefit of the poor."
