BISHOPSTONE, Herefordshire - Extract from National Gazetteer, 1868

[Description(s) from The National Gazetteer (1868)]
"BISHOPSTONE, a parish in the hundred of Grimsworth, in the county of Hereford, 7 miles to the W. of Hereford, its post town. It is situated near the river Wye. The living is a rectory,* of the value, with the vicarage of Yazor annexed to it, of £429, in the patronage of Sir R. Price, Bart. The church is dedicated to St. Lawrence. The principal charity is Berrington's Hospital, which has a revenue from endowment of £47 a year. In the vicinity is Garnous, a castellated mansion on Bishopstone Hill, with beautiful grounds, and commanding fine views of the river Wye. It is the seat of the Cotterells."
