HAMPTON CHARLES is a hamlet in the north-eastern division of Herefordshire, belonging to the parish of Bockleton, Worcestershire, 8 miles east from Leominster, 5 south of Tenbury, 7 north-west from Bromyard, 2 east from Hatfield, and three-quarters of a mile south of Bockleton church. It is in Broxash hundred, Bromyard union and county court district, Burford deanery, Salop archdeaconry and diocese of Hereford, situated 3 miles north of the Leominster and Bromyard turnpike road. The population in 1861 was 87, and the area is 451a. 1r. The soil is clayey, subsoil stoney, and the chief crops are corn, hops, and apples. James Gregg, Esq., and J.B. Lea, Esq., are the chief landowners.
