NORTON-CANON, Herefordshire - Extract from National Gazetteer, 1868

"NORTON-CANON, a parish in the hundred of Grimsworth, county Hereford, 10 miles N.W. of Hereford, its post town, and 3 S.W. of Weobly. The village, which is of small extent, is situated on the road from Hereford to Kington and Aberystwith. The inhabitants are wholly engaged in agriculture. Above half the land is arable, the remainder meadow and pasture. The great tithes, belonging to the Dean and Chapter of Hereford, have been commuted for a rent-charge of £310, and the vicarial for £119. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Hereford, value £120, in the patronage of the dean and chapter. The church, dedicated to St. Nicholas, is a brick structure, with a stone tower containing four bells. The parochial charities produce about £20 per annum, of which £8 goes to Barnard's school. The Dean and Chapter of Hereford are lords of the manor and principal landowners."

"MOORHAMPTON, a hamlet in the parish of Norton Canon and hundred of Grimsworth, county Hereford, 9 miles S.W. of Hereford. It is a station on the Hereford and Brecon railway. Moorhampton Park is situated on the river Dore."
