SARNESFIELD, Herefordshire - Extract from National Gazetteer, 1868

"SARNESFIELD, a parish in the hundred of Wolphy, county Hereford, 2 miles S.W. of Weobley, its post town, and 10 from Leominster. The village, which is of small extent, is situated on the road from Hereford to Kington and Aberystwith, near Lady Lift. The inhabitants are wholly agricultural. The land is partly in hop grounds. The soil consists of a strong loam upon a subsoil of clay. The living is a rectory* in the diocese of Hereford, value £203. The church, dedicated to All Saints, is an ancient stone structure, with a tower containing three bells. The interior of the church contains an effigy of Abel, the architect, who built Hereford market-house. J. Arkwright, Esq., is lord of the manor."
