Cambridgeshire Record Office (Huntingdon)
User Information

Finding the documents you want.

Anyone can come along to the Records Office and carry out research using original documents or copies. In the searchroom there are various indexes and catalogues which will help you discover the items you wish to consult. Click here to see the range. Staff are always present to help and discussion will often help find the sources required.

All these documents are unique and irreplaceable, and are not available for loan. Researchers must therefore take care to avoid damage and to maintain the arrangement in which loose documents are kept. Only pencils may be used in the searchroom.

Photocopies (A4 and A3) can be supplied of many documents at a modest cost. A postal search service is available for those unable to visit in person. Please contact the Office for more details.

Access to the Records Office

Admission to the Records Office is free of charge.

Readers Tickets: The Records office is a member of the County Archive Research Network (CARN), and all searchers must have a CARN ticket. If you do not have one, please bring with you proof of both your name and address (such as a building society book, drivers' licence or utility bill (e.g. Gas Bill) or, for children, a note from your school. There is no charge for the ticket, and a temporary ticket may be issued if you are unable to prove address.

No appointment is necessary, unless you are visiting on a Saturday, but it is advisable to book by telephone if you wish to use records on microform (microfilm, microfiche, etc.).

Disabled Access: The searchroom is on the first floor of a former chapel building, up a steep flight of 21 stairs. With advanced notice, alternative arrangements can be made for disabled persons wishing to consult records.
