THERE are no titles of this class chronologically ascertained till the parliament called by Simon Montfort, earl of Leicester, in the reign of king Henry the third.

 


LORD BEAUCHAMP OF KIDDERMINSTER.

BEAUCHAMP, 10 October 1387.

John Beauchamp, great nephew of William first earl of Warwick, was created by king Richard the second baron Beauchamp of Kidderminster, which title became extinct by his attainder in the following year. He is the first baron created by patent in this kingdom.

 


 

HUNGERFORD, 7 January 1426.

Walter de Hungerford had summons to parliament in the reign of king Henry the sixth by the title of baron Hungerford. Robert, third lord Hungerford, succeeded 1441 to the title of baron Molins in right of Eleanor, his wife, daughter of William fifth lord Molins, and 1461 to the titles of baron Newmarch, Moels and Botreaux, in right of Margaret, his mother, daughter of William Botreaux third lord Newmarch. The titles became extinct in this family upon the death of Thomas, fourth lord Hungerford, 1468, and are in the earl of Huntingdon.

John Fanhope was created by king Henry the sixth baron Fanhope, and 30 January 1442 baron Milbroke. The titles became extinct at his death 1443.

Ralph Boteler, grandson of William first lord Boteler of Oversley, was created by king Henry the sixth baron Sudley, which title became extinct at his death 2 May 1473.

William, his grandson, succeeded to the title of baron Harrington in right of Elizabeth, his mother, daughter of William fourth lord Harrington, which title also became extinct in this family at his death 31 December 1460. The titles are in the earl of Stamford.

John Bourchier, brother of Henry first earl of Essex, had summons to parliament in the reign of king Henry the sixth by the title of baron Berners, which title became extinct in this family upon the death of John, second lord Berners, 16 March 1532.

KNIVET, -- ----- 1720.

Catherine Knivet, descended from Jane, daughter of John Bourchier second lord Berners, was admitted by king George the first to the dignity of baroness Berners, and married Richard Bockenham esquire. The title became extinct at her death 1773.
