"ADISHAM, a parish in the hundred of Downhamford, in the lathe of St. Augustine, in the county of Kent, 5 miles to the S.W. of Canterbury. Wingham is the post town. The living is a rectory, united with the curacy of Staple, in the diocese of Canterbury, value, £952. It is in the patronage of the archbishop. The church is in the form of a cross, and is in the early English style. It has a low tower, and is dedicated to the Holy Innocents. A portion of the land in this parish is laid out in hop-grounds. A court lest and court baron are held for this manor. Adhisham Street is a small village half a mile south."
