Church History

It was founded before 1631. St. Stephen moved to the site in Manchester Road in the 1960's following the destruction by fire (arson) of the original church, which was located about 500 yards to the east (Church Road) and hence the road name. There is no burial ground at the current St. Stephens and the old churchyard off Church Road is in poor repair and overgrown. The original vicarage was located in the first house on the left as you head north up Church Road immediately after the entrance to the former Astley Hospital. This was directly facing the church. The current church is on Manchester Road

This site provides historical information about churches, other places of worship and cemeteries. It has no connection with the churches themselves. For current information you should contact them directly.
