Church History

It was founded in 1842. In 1840 the Baptists opened the Branch Road Tabernacle, as Montague Street used to be called. This closed in 1910 and the new church (as in the photograph ) was opened in May 1911. This closed in 1960, the building was later demolished and the site used as a car park for the College. The site is now under some new College building.

This site provides historical information about churches, other places of worship and cemeteries. It has no connection with the churches etc. themselves.

Church Records

Whilst every effort has been made to record exact details of record office and library holdings you are recommended to check with them before visiting to ensure that they do hold the records and years you wish to examine. Similarly check with transcript publishers to ensure they cover the records and years you require before making a purchase.
