Chipping (from Pigots Directory 1830)
The parish church of Chipping is dedicated to St. Bartholomew; the living is a discharged vicarage, in the patronage of the Bishop of Chester. Two fairs are held in the village of Chipping. viz Easter Tuesday and August 24th, for cattle. The Parish includes the township of Thornley with Wheatly, and contains about 1,700 inhabitants, of which 1,230 are in Chipping township.
