Church History

It was founded in 1841.
The church (or chapel) of St. Peter was erected in 1840, at a cost of 4,000, chiefly through the liberality of Sir P. H. Fleetwood, Bart. The building is plain but substantial. The living, a perpetual curacy, is in the gift of the above named gentleman. There is a cemetery with a chapel at some distance from the town, near the landmark.

From Slater's 1869 Directory of Lancashire.

Whilst every effort has been made to record exact details of record office and library holdings you are recommended to check with them before visiting to ensure that they do hold the records and years you wish to examine.
