The church does not have a graveyard.Church History
It was founded in 1887.A beginning was made here in 1876 when a priest from St. Anne's, Fr. Edward Woods, afterwards Dean, opened a school and chapel in some cottage property at Lansdowne Street, Witton. The first day's attendance was 7, but ten years later there were more than 400. At this time it was separated from the parent mission; and Father P.J. Kirwan was given charge. In 1887, Cardinal Vaughan laid the foundation stone of a new school-chapel, a building of two storeys, which is still in use. Father Kirwan worked here until his death in 1922. His great ambition was to build a worthy church, but he never lived to see it. Unfortunately his successors have so far been prevented from achieving this desire. Unemployment and then the restrictions of the war years have frustrated the people of St. Peter's for a long time. Father Francis Burscough, Rector since 1933, would have been able to build a church but for the 1939 outbreak of War. It is to be hoped that the heavy burden of School reorganisation will not once more postpone the building of a church on the dominating site that is waiting for it.Taken from "Salford Diocese and its Catholic past", a survey by Charles A.
