Church History

It was founded in 1937. The church opened in 1939, new church 1960.

The pipe organ in this church came from Regent Street Congregational Church, Oldham and the Reredos from St Edmunds, Monsall, Manchester.

The new parish was started here by Fr. John O'Neil, who laboured with great zeal and devotion. The outbreak of war was very crippling for a young parish, but Fr. O'Neil did his duty with courage and much self-privation. He died after only ten years in the parish, and was followed by Fr. James O'Gara.

Taken from "Salford Diocese and its Catholic past", a survey by Charles A. Bolton, a Priest of the above Diocese. Published 1950 on the First Centenary for the Diocese of Salford.
