The church does not have a graveyard.Church History
It was founded in 1805. Itinerent Independent preachers had been visiting North Meols from 1801 and services were held at the cottage of John and Ellen Hooton. In 1805 a cottage was fitted out with pews but the owner also let the Methodists use it and eventually stopped the Independents from entering so they returned to the Hooton cottage. On 11th March 1807 seven people covenanted together to form the church. They were Ellen Hooton, Jane Platt, John Jackson, Roger Platt, John Hooton, James Hooton and Thomas Ball.
The Independent churches were ones in which each congregation was autonomous, upholding the principles of independence. In the 19th century they became known as Congregational.
In 1972 the Congregational church joined with the English Presbyterian church to become the United Reformed Church.
