It was founded in 1938. The current church opened in 1964.
Fortunately a chapel was opened here before the 1939 outbreak. Fr. Martin Falkner was the first resident priest and worked hard to establish the parish. To the loss of the parish he died prematurely in 1946. Fr. James O'Sullivan was then appointed, and has been successful in getting some fine schools built, as well as raising funds to reduce the heavy debt. The parish has still plenty to achieve, but has the vitality necessary for it.
Taken from "Salford Diocese and its Catholic past", a survey by Charles A. Bolton, a Priest of the above Diocese. Published 1950 on the First Centenary for the Diocese of Salford.
