Description & Travel

Cranoe is a parish, a township and a village on a gentle slope in the Vale of the Welland in Leicestershire. It is 7 miles north-by-east of Market Harborough and 14 miles east-by-south from Leicester city. The parish covers about 800 acres.

The village has declined over the last 100 years. If you are planning a visit:

  • The village is skirted on the south by the old Roman Road heading southeast out of Leicester. The parish lies between the A6 to the south and the A47 to the north.

  • Mat FASCIONE has a photograph of the Village Sign on Geo-graph, taken in September, 2007. You could use your artistic talent and historical knowledge to create a much more entertaining sign!

  • Andrew TATLOW also has a photograph of the Village Sign on Geo-graph, taken in July, 2014.

Politics & Government

  • The parish is in the ancient Gartree Hundred in the southern division of the county.

  • The small size of Cranoe's population lends itself well to having periodic Parish Meetings instead of having a formal Parish Council.

  • District governance is provided by the Harborough District Council.
