- The Anglican parish church is dedicated to Saint Bartholomew.
- The origin of the church is uncertain but apparently of Norman origin.
- The church was thoroughly restored in 1874.
- The church seats 70.
- The Anglican parish register dates from 1690.
- The church is in the rural deanery of Guthlaxton (first portion).
- Civil Registration began in July, 1837.
- The parish was in the Wigston sub-district of the Blaby Registration District.
Foston is a small village and was a civil parish about 6.5 miles south of Leicester city. The parish covered 1,333 acres.
The village is too small to appear on most small-scale (large area) maps. If you are planning a visit:
- By automobile, take the A50 arterial road south out of Leicester about 6 miles. A road to the right leads to Countesthorpe. Once on that road you are in the old parish of Foston.
- The national grid reference is SP 6095.
- You'll want an Ordnance Survey Explorer map, which has 2.5 inches to the mile scale.
- See our Maps page for additional resources.
- This place was an ancient parish of Leicestershire and a modern Civil Parish as well.
- The parish is in the ancient Guthlaxton Hundred in the southern division of the county.
- In April, 1936, theis parish was abolished to enlarge Kilby Civil Parish and all 1,333 acres were amalgamated with that parish.
- As a result of the 1834 Poor Law Amendment Act, this parish became part of the Blaby Poorlaw Union.
- Bastardy cases would be heard in the Leicester petty session hearings.
