Leicester anciently had only 6 parishes; Saint Mary's (north of the Newarke), All Saints' (in High Cross street), Saint Leonard's (destroyed in 1645), Saint Margaret's (by Sanvey Gate), Saint Martin's Collegiate (Town Hall Lane), and Saint Nicholas (said to be the oldest church in Leicester).
