Leicester Forest West is a hamlet and a small parish near Leicester city. It appears to be a small auto service area at the gateway to the National Forest.
If you are planning a visit:
- By automobile, the parish lies west off the M1 motorway just south of the junction with the A47.
- The hamlet is served by the Bull's Head puib.
- You may want to check out the area at Leicester Villages. Alas, there is little local information available.
- This was long a place popular with woodcutters and graziers.
- The national grid reference is SK 4802.
- You'll want an Ordnance Survey Explorer map, which has 2.5 inches to the mile scale.
- See our Maps page for additional resources.
- This place became a modern Civil Parish in 1858 as a result of population growth in the area.
- The parish was in the Sparkenhoe Hundred (Wapentake) in the southern division of the county.
- The parish is so thinly populated that they do not have a formal parish council. The citizens have periodic Parish Meetings to discuss civic and political issues.
- District governance is provided by the Blaby District Council.
- As a result of the Poor Law Amendment Act reforms of 1834, the parish became part of the Blaby Poorlaw Union when it became a parish.
- Bastardy cases would be heard in the Leicester petty session hearings.
