Wordthorpe is a village and a township which lie about 1.5 miles south of Loughborough. In the late 1800s, the township was managed as a parish, covering about 411 acres, most of which was pasture for sheep and cattle.

- This place was a hamlet in Loughborough parish for centuries. In December, 1866, it was formed as a Civil Parish.
- The parish is in the ancient West Goscote Hundred in the mid division of the county.
- On 1 April, 1935, the Civil Parish was abolshed and amalgamated back into Loughborough Civil Parish. 112 acres were transfered to Quorndon Civil Parish and another 7 acres went to Woodhouse Civil Parish.
