Description in 1849:
"Wymondham is a large village and parish in the Hundred of Framland and Union of Melton, 7 miles north of Oakham and 7 east of Melton Mobray, containing upwards of 800 inhabitants and 2,852 acres of land, partly red loam and partly clay. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Leicester and diocese of Peterborough, of the annual value of £560, and in the patronage of the Lord Chancellor; the Rev. Richard Cragg, B.A., is the incumbent. The church is dedicated to St. Peter; it is a handsome cross-shaped building, having a nave, chancel, ailes, transepts, and a square embattled tower surmounted by a lofty spire, with a clock and 6 bells. The interior of the church has been recently cleaned and restored, and a small organ, purchased by subscription, erected at the west end. An Independent chapel, with a school attached, was erected in 1840, and a Wesleyan chapel in 1841. Here is a Free grammar school, founded in 1637 by Sir John Sedley, who bequeathed £400 to be laid out in lands for the support of the master. The Syston and Peterborough railway passes through the parish. This is a place of great antiquity, and remains of its ancient walls are still to be seen. A steam mill was erected in 1847, and is now worked for grinding corn. The Earl of Harborough is lord of the manor."

Note: There is a Wymondham in Norfolk, also. Make sure that you are researching the correct one.
