  • The Anglican parish church is dedicated to Saint Bartholomew. It was originally St. Andrew.
     
  • The dedication of this church changed from St. Andrew to St. Bartholomew in the 19th Century.
     
  • The church was built in the 12th century.
     
  • The church tower was added in the 16th century.
     
  • The church was renovated in 1858.
     
  • The church seats 200.

Description & Travel

This village and parish lies 5 miles north of Corby and 8.5 miles south-east of Grantham. The hamlet of Scotland lies in this parish, just west of the village. The parish covers almost 2,400 acres.

Military History

There is a hand-written roll of honour with decorative foliate border of oak leaves and acorns, framed and glazed inside the door of St. Bartholomew's Church. There are 33 names from World War One listed.

Politics & Government

  • This place was an ancient parish in Lincoln county and became a modern Civil Parish when those were established.
     
  • The parish was in the North division of the ancient Beltisloe Wapentake in the South Kesteven district in the parts of Kesteven.
     
  • Just prior to 1842, the parish was taken from the Aswardhurn Wapentake and re-assigned to Beltisloe.

Poor Houses, Poor Law

  • Bastardy cases would be heard in the Spittlegate petty session hearings.
