Spalding Poor Law Union

After the Poor Law Reform Act of 1834, the Spalding Poor Law Union was formed on 30 November 1835 to serve the needs of ten local parishes (Donington, Quadring, Gosberton, Surfleet, Pinchbeck, Spalding, Cowbit, Weston, Moulton, andDeeping St Nicholas).
The new workhouse was built out of red brick on the eastern side of Pinchbeck Road to the north of Spalding in 1836 with room for 300. All these buildings have since been demolished.
The Lincolnshire Archives has the Spalding Poor Law Union Guardians' minute books (1835-1930); Admissions and discharges (1913-16, 1924-8); Creed register (1914-36); Punishment book (1862-1929); Register of lunatics (1914-48) and some misc. documents.
There are no birth or death registers for Spalding Workhouse.
