"EARLS BARTON, a parish in the hundred of Hamfordshoe, county Northampton, 6 miles N.E. of Northampton, and 1 N. of Billing Road station. It is situated on the river Nen. The shoe trade gives employment to the greater part of the inhabitants. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Peterborough, value £195, in the gift of the lord chancellor. The church, dedicated to All Saints, is an ancient structure. The Baptists and Wesleyans have each a chapel, and there are National and British schools. M. W. Phipps, Esq., is lord of the manor."
