"LILBOURNE, a parish in the hundred of Guilsborough, county Northampton, 6 miles S.E. of Rugby, its post town, and 6 S. of Lutterworth. It is a station on the Rugby branch of the London and North-Western railway. The village, which is extensive, is situated on the river Avon, and on the Roman way Watling Street. It is supposed to occupy the site of the ancient Tripontiuin. There are traces of a square camp a quarter of an acre in extent, also a large tumulus at Round Hill. The inhabitants are partly employed in the stocking manufacture. The tithes were commuted for land at the enclosure of the parish. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Peterborough, value £127, in the patronage of the lord chancellor. The church, dedicated to All Saints, has a square embattled tower containing five bells. The charities produce about £40 10s. per annum, the produce of 40 acres of land. There is a free school for both sexes. The Wesleyans have a place of worship.
