"THENFORD, a parish in the hundred of King's Sutton, county Northampton, 4 miles E. of Banbury, and 5½ N.W. of Brackley, its post town. The village is situated on a branch of the river Cherwell, near Arbury Roman camp. The inhabitants are chiefly engaged in agriculture, and a few in lace-making. There is a mineral spring. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Peterborough, value £120. The church, dedicated to St. Mary, is an ancient edifice, with a tower and five bells. The parochial charities produce about £19 per annum. There is a village school supported by Mrs. Severn. The principal residence is Thenford House. J. M. Severn, Esq., is lord of the manor."
