Girton

Girton is a small village and parish on the east bank ot the Trent, 9 miles N. by E. of Newark. It has 191 inhabitants, and 1210 acres of land, of the rateable value of £1238. 17s. 6d. The Church, a humble edifice, is a perpetual curacy annexed to South Scarle, being in the same patronage and appropriation; Miss Edmonds and S. Hutton, Esq., are lessees under the prebendary of South Scarle, for the tithe which was commuted in 1842, for £194. The principal owners are Christopher Milnes, Esq., Sir Francis Darwin, Bart., Godfrey Tallents, Esq., Mr. George Proctor, and Mrs. Howard.
