"EMPINGHAM, a parish in the hundred of EAST, county of RUTLAND, 6 miles (E. by S.) from Oakham, containing 759 inhabitants. The living is a discharged vicarage, rated in the king's books at £7.14. 9½., endowed with £200 private benefaction, and £200 royal bounty, and in the peculiar jurisdiction and patronage of the Prebendary of Empingham in the Cathedral Church of Lincoln. The church, dedicated to St. Peter, is a handsome edifice, principally in the early English style, with some later insertions.
