ACTON SCOTT, Shropshire - Extract from National Gazetteer, 1868

"ACTON SCOTT, a parish in the upper division of the hundred of Munslow, in the county of Salop, 3 miles to the S. of Church Stratton, and 1 mile from Marsh Brook station on the Shrewsbury and Hereford railway. It is situated under Wenlock Edge, near Watling Street and the river Onny. The living is a rectory* in the diocese of Hereford, value £238, in the patronage of F. W. Pendarvis. The church is dedicated to St. Margaret."

"ALCASTON, (or Alciston), a township in the parish of Acton Scott, in the hundred of Munslow, and county of Salop. It is situated about 1 mile from the parish church, and 1½ mile from Marsh Brook station, on the Shrewsbury and Hereford line of railway. It was formerly a Roman settlement. Loxdale Warren, Esq., is lord of the manor."

"ENCHMARSH, a township in the parish of Acton-Scott, county Salop, 4 miles N.E. of Church-Stretton."

"GRETTON, a township in the parish of Acton Scott and Rushbury, hundred of Munslow, county Salop, 4 miles N.E. of Church Stretton."
