"ALVELEY, a parish in the hundred of Stottesdon, in the county of Salop, 6 miles to the S.E. of Bridgnorth. It is situated on the eastern bank of the river Severn, and comprises the liberty of Romsley, which is within the liberty of the borough of Bridgnorth, and the township of King's Nordley. The living is a perpetual curacy in the diocese of Lichfield, value £103, in the patronage of Mrs. Wakeman. The church, which had formerly a chantry, is dedicated to St. Mary. A free school was founded here in 1616, by John Grove, for poor children of the parish. Its present income is £26. He also founded some almshouses for decayed labourers." "COTON, a hamlet in the county of Salop, 6 miles S. of Bridgnorth. W. Wollaston, author of the "Religion of Nature", was born here." "NORDLEY-REGIS, a township in the parish of Alveley, hundred of Stottesdon, county Salop, 5 miles S.E. of Bridgnorth." "ROMSLEY, a liberty in the parish of Alveley, Chelmarsh division of Stottesdon hundred, county Salop, 7 miles S.E. of Bridgnorth, within which borough it is included. It is situated near the river Severn."
