BENTHALL, Shropshire

"BENTHALL, a parish in the liberty of Wenlock borough, in the county of Salop, 2 miles to the N.E. of Much Wenlock, its post town. It is situated on the S. bank of the river Severn, which is navigable here. The inhabitants of the village are chiefly employed in the potteries. The living is a perpetual curacy in the diocese of Hereford, value £93, in the patronage of the Vicar of Much Wenlock. The church is dedicated to St. Bartholomew. The principal seat is Benthall Hall, originally erected in 1535, but partly burnt down and rebuilt in 1818."
