"CARDINGTON, a parish in the upper division of the hundred of Munslow, in the county of Salop, 4 miles to the E. of Church Stretton. Shrewsbury is its post town. It is situated in a district abounding in clay and quartz fit for the use of the potteries. The parish comprises the townships of Broom, Chatwall, Comley, Holt-Preen, Lydley-Hayes, and Willstone. The living is a vicarage* in the diocese of Hereford, value £287, in the patronage of R. Hunt, Esq. The church is dedicated to St. James. There is a free school with an income from endowment of £25 a year. The other parochial charities are worth about £50 per annum."
