CAYNHAM, Shropshire - Extract from National Gazetteer, 1868

"CAYNHAM, (or Cainham), a parish in the hundred of Stottesdon, in the county of Salop, 3 miles to the E. of Ludlow. It is situated near the Shrewsbury and Hereford railway, and contains the township of Bennett's End. The living is a vicarage* in the diocese of Hereford, value £338, in the patronage of C. K. Mainwaring, Esq. The church is dedicated to St. Mary. There is another church dedicated to St. Paul, and situated in the village of Knowbury, the living of which is a curacy, worth £100, in the gift of the Bishop of Worcester. The chief residence is Cainham Court, the seat of Captain B. Calcot."

"BENNETT'S END, a township in the parish of Cainham, hundred of Stottesdon, in the county of Salop, 3 miles to the E. of Ludlow."

"KNOWBURY, a colliery village and ecclesiastical district in the parish of Cainham, in the hundred of Munslow, county Salop, 4 miles E. of Ludlow, and 24 S.E. of Shrewsbury. The living is a perpetual curacy in the diocese of Hereford, value £100, in the patronage of the bishop. The church is a modern edifice dedicated to St. Paul."
