"CHURCH PREEN, (or Preen Church), a parish in the hundred of Condover, in the county of Salop, 6 miles from Much Wenlock, its post town, and 10 from Shrewsbury. The living is a perpetual curacy in the diocese of Hereford, value £76, in the patronage of W. H. Sparrow, Esq. The church, dedicated to St. John the Baptist, is an ancient stone structure, and contains a pulpit bearing date 1641. Not far from here is Plairh, where there is a curious old hall containing some fine specimens of oak panelling. The Earl of Bradford is lord of the manor."
