"CHURCH-PULVERBATCH, a parish in the hundred of Condover, in the county of Salop, 8 miles S.W. of Shrewsbury, and 6 N.W. of the Church Stretton railway station. This place, once a market town, is now only a small village. The parish contains the townships of Castle Pulverbatch, Cothorcott, Churton, Wilderley, and Wrentnall. There are traces of an ancient castle. The living is a rectory* in the diocese of Hereford, value £566, in the patronage of G. Webb, Esq. The church, opened in 1853, is a stone structure, chiefly in the early English style, and is dedicated to St. Edith. Here is a parochial school. A fair is held on the 27th September."
